Thirty-one years ago this week, Mountain View High School student Kimberly Kersey left school to walk home. She never made it, and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office is highlighting the anniversary of the case in hopes it can generate new leads.Kersey, 18, disappeared March 11, 1987, rocking the community.“The case has never really been closed, it’s just unsolved,” sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Brent Waddell said. The sheriff’s office, with Detective Lindsay Schultz, reinvigorated its cold case unit in recent years, and the Kersey disappearance is one of its projects.“Anybody who’s been here for any length of time is very aware of the Kim Kersey case,” he said.Waddell said Schultz and the unit are trying to use social media to mark anniversaries in particular investigations, in an attempt to generate more attention for old cases and, ideally, find more information.Schultz interviewed Kristen Kersey, Kimberley Kersey’s sister, for the effort. Kristen Kersey was 13 at the time her sister went missing, and she talked with Schultz about the pain of a sister disappearing.“When you have a sister there’s a bond there, you know?” she said. “Just someone to share something that’s really deep.”Kristen Kersey and the sheriff’s office encourage anyone with helpful information to contact the sheriff’s office, or contact Schultz directly at email@example.com or 360-397-2028. read more

Despite receiving flak for his sluggish batting, MS Dhoni has all the backing of his side and captain. The veteran came under a lot of fire for his lack of intent in the match against Afghanistan but then showed his importance to the side with a superb knock against West Indies. On the eve of the match against England, Kohli has once again thrown all his weight behind the former skipper and revealed how he went to the nets to train after his struggles against Afghanistan. After the last game he went into the nets, he worked hard, he put in a performance, got us to a winning total & we won the game, we got 2 points,” Kohli told reporters at Edgbaston. He also revealed that as a side, the Indian team was at a very happy space and was very comfortable with what Dhoni brings to the table. “So we are very very happy & comfortable with where we stand as a team & how the batting is going at the moment,” he further added.Kohli believes Dhoni understands the game perfectly Virat Kohli and MS DhoniGetty ImagesKohli also threw light on Dhoni’s performance for the entire year and said that the seasoned campaigner has been prolific and that, he understands the game perfectly to shepherd the batting innings in the middle order. The captain reiterated that people read too much into one or two blips, which can happen to any cricketer. #We have total belief in him. He has stood up for the team many times, especially if you look at this calendar year & performances he has given. I don’t think it’s fair to point out 1-2 performances which anyone can falter with the bat. We’re not looking too much into it,” Kohli added. Virat KohliGetty imagesSpeaking about the combination of the side, the skipper said that he is happy to have a headache pertaining to the bowling stocks. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is back in the nets, but Mohammed Shami has been in roaring form in the two matches he has played so far and this is pleasing the skipper. “Bhuvi is a world-class bowler, Shami in the last year has come around so well – he’s fitter and picking wickets – he has that hunger. Bhuvi is recovering fast but it’s a headache to have and we will take a call as per situation,” Kohli said.India, which is unbeaten in their campaign so far, will take on England at Edgbaston. It needs to be mentioned here that India toppled England and became the new number 1 ODI side in the world in the previous game against West Indies. read more

Share APBerkshire Hathaway Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett (left) in 2017; Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, in 2013; and JP Morgan Chase Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon in 2013. Berkshire Hathaway, Amazon and JPMorgan Chase are teaming up to create a health care company announced Tuesday that is “free from profit-making incentives and constraints.”Health care costs are “a hungry tapeworm on the American economy,” Berkshire Hathaway Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett says, and now his firm is teaming up with Amazon and JPMorgan Chase to create a new company with the goal of providing high-quality health care for their U.S. employees at a lower cost. The new company will be “free from profit-making incentives and constraints” as it tries to find ways to cut costs and boost satisfaction with the health care plan for employees of Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway and JPMorgan Chase. The trio unveiled their new venture in a news release.“The initial focus of the new company will be on technology solutions that will provide U.S. employees and their families with simplified, high-quality and transparent healthcare at a reasonable cost,” the companies said. The enterprise unites three of the largest and most envied companies in their respective sectors — from retail to banking, and including Berkshire’s wide portfolio of companies such as Geico and Fruit of the Loom. And in Buffett, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon, the companies also have veteran leaders who have shown an ability to solve vexing business problems.According to recent annual reports, taken together the three companies employ more than 950,000 people worldwide. The three CEOs say they’re aware of the enormous challenges they face.“The health care system is complex, and we enter into this challenge open-eyed about the degree of difficulty,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO. “Hard as it might be, reducing health care’s burden on the economy while improving outcomes for employees and their families would be worth the effort.”Responding to the announcement Tuesday morning, White House economic adviser Gary Cohn told CNBC “we agree in that philosophy. We think that individual workers should have to pay less for health care.”Still, the Trump administration already “created association health-care plans, which is the exact same thing that those companies did,” Cohn said, referring to an executive order last October that sought to make it easier for employers to combine efforts in offering insurance. That order also opened the possibility some groups could get coverage across state lines — “a move that Republicans have long advocated as a way to lower costs,” NPR’s Scott Horsley explained at the time.“Smaller businesses could pool their employees together to get more purchasing power,” Cohn added Tuesday, “so they could save money on health care.”NPR’s Scott Hensley tells Morning Edition there is precedent for the case of a non-health care company wading into the health care business — “in fact, it has happened repeatedly.”“One of the most prominent examples is what is now Kaiser Permanente, a big provider of health care in this country. It started with the Kaiser shipyards and providing, first, workers comp kind of care and, later, more integrated health care for employees,” Scott explains. “So it is possible.”The particulars remain scarce at the moment, though. Details such as the company’s name, base of operations and long-term leadership weren’t included in a joint news release about the new company that was sent out Tuesday morning. At the start, the new company will be led by executives from each of the troika of giant firms: Marvelle Sullivan Berchtold, a managing director of JPMorgan Chase; Todd Combs, an investment officer of Berkshire Hathaway; and Beth Galetti, a senior vice president at Amazon.JPMorgan’s Dimon said, “The three of our companies have extraordinary resources, and our goal is to create solutions that benefit our U.S. employees, their families and, potentially, all Americans.”Copyright 2018 NPR. Among rich Pakistanis, he says, the desire to own classic automobiles has been growing and the club’s membership has now topped 10,000. This photo taken April 14, 2015, shows a restored six cylinder Wolseley 1936 vintage car in Islamabad, Pakistan. It was credited for putting America on wheels at a time when automobiles were considered an extreme luxury by people mostly used to riding horse carriages.Zafar’s said his “first love” was a maroon, six-cylinder Wolseley 1936 model — a “wreck” when he found it in 1988. It took him several years and trips abroad to hunt down parts to restore it to original condition, he said.Getting spare parts is the most challenging aspect of the hobby, the collectors say, and parts are often shipped from the U.S. or Europe. Advertisements are put in foreign newspapers — even friends traveling abroad are recruited for help.In response to an ad in 2004, a London broker got a Karachi-based businessman Karim Chhapra an original clock he desperately wanted for his 1924 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost model. It cost 400 pounds — or about $725 at the time. The Rolls-Royce won first place at an international Concours D’Elegance car show in Kuwait in 2012, Chhapra said, and his American 1929 Hupmobile came in second. The Rolls was originally owned by a prince, Nawab Sadiq Muhammad Khan Abbasi, in the then-India’s Bahawlpur state, which later became part of Pakistan. Lord Mountbatten, the last viceroy of India, and Pakistan’s father of the nation, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, rode in it together during the 1947 ceremony marking the birth of Pakistan. It had remained garaged for decades, said Chhapra, who made his son promise never to sell the car but keep it in the family. When he occasionally takes the 300,000 pounds (about $462,000) Rolls-Royce for a spin, people on the streets stop him for a selfie. The prince had about 100 cars, most of which were auctioned off, said his grandson, Sulaiman Abbasi, also a member of the classic cars club.Abbasi said he has worked for years on another car he inherited from his grandfather, a 1948 1 Copyright © The Associated Press. LOT spreads its wings to UkraineLOT spreads its wings to UkraineLOT is going to launch a direct flight to Kiev’s central Zhuliany airport. The flights are scheduled to be launched on 26 February and will be initially operated 6 and then 7 times a week. It’s LOT’s fifth direct connection to Ukraine. In that way the Polish carrier have become the largest European Union airline operating on the Ukrainian market.Flights to the Zhuliany airport will be operated daily apart from Saturdays. The departure is scheduled for 22:40. Return flights are operated on all weekdays apart from Sundays (at 6:00). Starting in the summer the flights will be operated daily. Such timetable allows passengers not just from Poland but from all the other western European cities to travel comfortably to Kiev. Passengers travelling from Kiev can reach Warsaw and other European tourist and business centers in the shortest possible time, even without an overnight stay.“The Zhuliany airport is recognized as Kiev’s central airport. We are glad that being the only EU carrier we are able to offer daily flights from that airport to our hub in Warsaw. As a result the passengers starting their journey at the Zhuliany airport have access to the entire network of more than 60 connections offered by LOT. We are convinced that Kiev inhabitants will gladly take advantage of that opportunity”, says Adrian Kubicki, Director of Corporate Communications. The Zhuliany airport in Kiev is the fifth Ukrainian destination in LOT’s network of connections and Ukraine is one of the most important markets in the Central and Eastern Europe to the Polish airlines. In March 2016 LOT launched a flight to Kharkiv which quickly turned out to be a success.“Ukrainian passengers need access to a hub that offers direct connections to major cities in Europe and in the world and Warsaw is now the largest hub in the Central and Eastern Europe. Strengthening our leading position in Ukraine results directly from our strategy of consolidating air traffic in that part of Europe”, says Adrian Kubicki. “Apart from flights to the Boryspil International Airport which we operate twice a day, we are going to offer as many as 20 flights to and from Warsaw and Kiev per week!”, adds Adrian Kubicki. The flights on the Warsaw-Kiev Zhuliany route will be operated using modern Embraer 195s with the seating capacity of 112 passengers. LOT is the only carrier in Europe which offers as many as three travel classes on short-distance flights, each of which meets the individual requirements and expectations of our clients. Currently, apart from LOT Business Class, the carrier also offers LOT Premium Economy Class, which combines business class service and affordable price. On the other hand, for Economy Class passengers, LOT has created a dedicated tariff known as LOT Economy Simple, which enables them to travel only with hand luggage at a 30% discount. Furthermore, in each class we offer a unique range of products available on board. All LOT passengers can choose from “a la carte” services, such as “My Favourite Meal”, “My Extra Baggage”, Duty Free shopping or AirKiosk on board. The launch of the flights to Kiev Zhuliany is a part of LOT’s profitable growth strategy which has been implemented since the early 2016. Based on its underlying assumptions LOT intends to become the first-choice airlines not only among passengers travelling from Poland but also from other countries in the region. In November the carrier have started to work together with the Estonian national airlines, in that way initiating the process of consolidating the markets of the Central and Eastern Europe. Launching the fifth direct flight to Ukraine is another step reinforcing LOT’s position in that part of the continent.LOT plans to continue its intensive development following 2017; as of April 2017, the carrier will launch direct flights to new US destinations, Newark and Los Angeles, in that way expanding its overseas routes.Tickets for LOT’s new flights to the Zhuliany airport in Kiev can be purchased using all available channels, including the lot.com website, LOT Call Center, the LOT Travel offices and travel agents.
